On Dick's walk today we came across a place called 'Brinsley Gin'. As it was such a curious name ,I've had a rummage round on the tinterweb and found the following .
Brinsley Gin
The name Brinsley Gin is not connected to alcohol, but refers to an early coal mine operated with a horse gin. A horse gin is a method of harnessing the power of horses for milling or driving machinery. One or more harnessed horses would walk around a circular track and turn a large toothed wheel which turns smaller wheels to operate machinery. Lyn B
