We met in the large car park at Teversal Visitor Centre for our walk along tree lined shady trails on this very hot day.  We first turned right onto the Skegby Trail making our way to Pleasley Nature Reserve.  We passed a County waymarker reminding us we had passed from Nottinghamshire into Derbyshire and ponds housing plenty of ducks, a swan, a heron and lilypads before arriving at the Pleasley Pit Country Park and Nature Reserve, an old reclaimed colliery site for our coffee break.  This site has a large cafe and visitor information centre and the old winder house opens to visitors on Wednesdays and at weekends.  We then made our way through open grassland passing a small pond that dragonfly were using and a helpful information board which tells visitors the difference between a dragonfly and a damselfly.  We kept in the shade on the Teversal Trail then turned onto the Rowthorne Trail until we had to turn left to cross a cut field of wheat in the very hot sunshine, luckily after crossing the River Meden we were back in the shade again emerging onto Norwood Lane from the public footpath through a house’s driveway for our lunch break, again in the shade, before our leisurely return to Teversal, where we emerged into the very hot sunshine at 1.30pm.  We didn’t plan the weather but we had a pleasant and generally shade filled walk.  Thank you to all those who walked with us.
