An old favourite walk from Hartington. 19 of us met at the Duck Pond. Coolish day sunny with cloud. Ideal for walking. But one short shower around 1.30. We walked north up the upper Dove valley nearly to Crowdecote the back south via Pilsbury castle. Beautiful fields with lots of cattle of all sizes. A couple of hares and lots of birds, wonderful views going both ways. As we walked north, we could see Parkhouse, and Chrome hill. As we walked south, we could see right along the valley. Lunch was at Pilsbury castle, which is the remains of a medieval motte and Bailey castle according to the information board. A very pleasant place to sit and have our sandwiches. Thanks to everyone for your company which continued in the Beresford tea room back in Hartington. Jane.
