7 of us set off from Bakewell today. We walked across fields and tracks to join the Monsal Trail above Hassop then after a short, chilly break on the Monsal viaduct, we descended to Monsal Dale which was very muddy. From here we crossed the A6 in the direction of Deep Dale but after walking along and through a fast flowing stream we made a steep ascent on the edge of Great Shacklow Wood. After lunch we followed a track to Sheldon then, as a change from mud, we had some easy walking on minor roads. We could see the spire of the church in Bakewell from some distance and gradually headed back to our starting point, firstly over well trodden paths then around little back roads and alleys down to the A6 before crossing the River Wye.
