Codnor Park Reservoir CP

Walk 9.2 miles 18 on walk

One of the flattest walks I’ve been on, even in Norfolk there are hills. Over the whole nine miles we had a total ascent of just over one hundred feet, still as someone said it was a canal walk, a couple of Nature reserves thrown in along the way. We were nearly always close to the Cromford canal or the Erewash River, passing by Erewash Meadows Nature Reserve and Aldercarr Flash Reserve. We walked through the heart of Langley Mill, exiting to gain the Cromford canal towpath to continue northwards. A sign under a bridge here stated that the canal was formed in 1794 and this part, at least is still in use today, as witnessed by the several houseboats moored along it. As a point of reference, we walked by the sewage works and on to the bridge, parallel to Lacey Fields Farm, stopping at the bridge for our lunch break. We then returned along the way we had come, just with a slight variation to take the straighter path by Jacksdale and Ironville. We completed the walk by two twenty, unfortunately the tea wagon had left the car park, so it was straight home for a nice cuppa. Thanks to all for a good day out.
