The walk started from the ornamental sheep in the centre of Carsington Village then down School Lane to the Reservoir. Taking the reservoir path in the direction of Hopton and then after ¾ mile turning away from the reservoir and going into Hopton village where we picked up the footpath to climb up to The High Peak Trail, where we stopped for a ‘coffee break’ after our exertions. We were lucky, the sun was out and we could see the tower at Black Rocks, Bole Hill and the masts at Alport Heights.
Crossing straight over the Trail and going northwest passing Moor Farm (which is undergoing substantial refurbishment) and down to Lees Farm overlooking the quarry. Continuing across the road and again climbing up to Griffe Grange and passing very close to the wind turbines.
Turning off this track at New Harboro farm and straight up to the trig point on Harboro Rocks. This was meant to be our lunch break! However, the wind was extremely blustery and cold so we descended back to the High Peak Trail and did the short walk to Railway Cottage where there were enough seats for all. Again, despite the wind, the sun was out and the sky clear and we were able to see the Willington and the Ratcliffe power station towers on the horizon.
It was then a steady walk back towards Carsington Village, but the final couple hundred yards was very steep , but thankfully dry.
The walk finished at 1.50 and some walkers called in at the Miners arms – for a cuppa. Dave & Jane
