 Hartington Market Place

Weather. Drizzle, rain and wind.
5 people met at the market place in Hartington but only 4 of us did the walk. We set off uphill initially, passing the Youth Hostel before turning off the road. We headed towards Chapel Farm and Heathcote before walking across fields to meet the Tissington Trail at the old Hartington Signal Box. We took our morning break here then continued along the Trail to have our lunch at Parsley Hay. After our break we changed direction, heading for Carder Low over fields and a minor road. Apart from the occasional gateway there was little mud as the land drains very well in this area. From the ‘shoulder’ of Carder Low we descended towards the River Dove but turned towards Hartington picking up the footpath that leads from Parkhouse and Pilsbury Castle. We encountered a few interesting stiles today and the only thick mud was found in the very last field we walked through. Unfortunately the lovely cattle had well and truly made it their home. We had some lovely vistas but if the weather had been better we would have had some stunning views. Frankie.
