Today’s walk is one I have fond memories of, being one of those we were first shown when we came to Derbyshire all those years ago. Our leader then imparted as much information to his followers as, I hope I did today. A lovely place, especially when the Heather is flowering so beautifully, although the Bracken has now got a strong hold on the moor, blotting out some of the former fabulous views of purple Heather and bright yellow Gorse. The native Birch now quite a bit taller than I remember, although it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise as I try and come up here at least once a year, either with the group or just a wander by myself. I do hope those with us today and had not experienced walking on Stanton Moor, may in future have the same such memories.

The main sites visited, in order, start to finish are, Druids Inn, St. Michael’s Church, Rowtor Rocks, Rocking Stone Farm, Uppertown, National Trust Stanton Moor Edge, to include Heart Stone and Cat Stone, Earl Gray Tower (Reform Tower), Duke of York Stone, Nine Ladies, King Stone, Stanton Moor Trig point, finishing with the Cork Stone, followed by a short walk back to the car park, there by twelve thirty. Great day for me, hoping all felt the same.
