We arrived in Brackenfield to find the villagers, beginning to prepare for the annual weekend, Well Dressing. The grass on The Green had been mown short, ready for stalls and parking. Such a pretty, well-ordered village, I do hope the weather holds and they are rewarded by good numbers, for the effort they have put in.

We left the village, after a brief safety talk form our leader, setting off down towards the church, but soon turning right to take the path to Green Farm. Then carrying on to cross over Winny Brook, walking on to Wessington and going through it via Wessington Green, to follow a track to Moorwoodmoor Lane. At Church Farm we branched right, taking a long hard track, to Hay Farm and then left to Spring Farm, where we sat in a nearby field for our morning break. With the break over, we headed west on a long drag up to Wheatcroft, pausing here, not just to admire this pretty little part of the county, but, allowing us time to regroup, for the last short climb, up the road to Beech Farm. We now turned right, walking between the well-presented, Holiday Cottages, going downhill to reach the road at Lindwaylane Farm. We followed the narrow country lane, branching off, to reach Shipman’s Farm and cross over the busy A615. (It was here that, as we crossed the road, we found a purse/wallet that someone had lost, the contents were intact, but strewn about the verge. The address was local and one of our members offered to try and find the owner, which he did and she was delighted, after having been out looking for it, to have it returned.  A good deed done I am sure).  A short leafy path ahead, took us back onto Brackenfield Green, arriving there by around twenty to one.
