A dry warm day but with a cold Northern wind . Ideal for walking. We have not had any appreciable rain for 2 months now. The ground is very dry but so far the wild plants seem to be surviving, and it has been an amazing spring for all types of spring flowers. and today the hawthorns or May blossom was wonderful.

James led a delightful walk from Ilam park. The field around the park were full of large healthy-looking lambs. We walked to the village and then to the bridge across the river. We had to scramble by some workmen and a very large machine because some vehicle had demolished the end of the bridge, and they were mending it.

We followed the flat path beside the river then up through the small wood to reach the foot path above Coldwell bridge. Up the steep hill then to Coldwell farm . The styles on this path had been renewed which was a treat. The old ones had been very rickety. The footpath now afforded us wonderful views of the dove valley . We stopped for lunch behind a stone wall which sheltered us, and we had a lovely lunch spot. Then down again to the valley and the road which lead us back towards Ilam.  Back to the excellent tea rooms where some of us enjoyed a brew with one of the best views in the White peak . Such a good walk but we do need some rain. Jane.
