New Years Day Walk
4 miles Leader Jane H.
Wednesday 1 January 2025
Weather 7°C. Fair
No. on walk 13
13 of us met up in the Field Lane car park, Belper. The weather forecast was terrible, torrential rain and storm force winds. Indeed it had been very wet and windy all night and became wet again after we had finished our walk . But from 10.30 to 1.00 it was cloudy and cool, but no rain and winds, we were very lucky and just had a small window in the weather.  It was very muddy under foot and the footpaths were very slippery. Only one person fell, however. We went over Belper Bridge the Derwent was very high. Then along the river path which was flooded in parts. We then went up to Farner Green road deciding not to try to go up to the Chevin as the very steep muddy foot path might have been very difficult. Along to Blackbrook. Up and down The Dalley and up to Mount Pleasant and back to the A517 into Belper.  The Derwent had risen appreciably, when we crossed it on the way back, let's hope there will be no flooding. Apparently 4 miles in all, but more importantly back to the car park by 12.45 and into The Devonshire pub, where our new year's dinner was booked. We met some more Ramblers and we all enjoyed excellent food and company to celebrate the coming of the New Year. Jane.
