Weather 11°C. windy at times
No on walk 12.
12 of us met at Ilam Hall and welcomed a new member. We set off to cross the R Manifold at St Bertram’s bridge then headed to Blore church via Blore Pastures. We had our morning break at the church and it was here that the slight drizzle turned to rain. We huddled in the church porch but the rain wasn’t long lived. Once on our way again and after 2 tricky stiles we returned to the road then took the footpath around Hazelton Clump. Great views of Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill and rainbows at this point. Gradually we continued uphill from Upper Musden (and rather boggy terrain), around Musden Low then down to Fieldhead and Calton Green. We had lunch by a drystone wall, sheltered from the wind, then uphill again to Slade House. From here we turned to head back to Ilam across open fields with wonderful views back towards Thorpe, Dovedale, Castern Hall and surrounds. At Rushley we had another muddy encounter but we were soon crossing the Manifold again and were back at Ilam by 2.10. Frankie
