No scenic views today, quite misty, except when down in the village. In fact, at times, the back end of our walk train, couldn’t see the front, we only knew where they were if we stopped and then we could hear them chattering along the way. There was about seven hundred foot of ascent overall the walk, except for the steps going up to Upper Town, there didn’t seem a lot of climbing to do. Perhaps we missed it in the mist?

To start, we walked up Yeoman Street, turning left, just before the Cross, to walk the semi-stepped path up Puddle Hill to Bell Lane at Upper Town. At the corner of Moor Lane, we walk diagonally across the fields to joining The Limestone Way, leaving it at Bleaklow Lane, for Brightgate, taking our morning break on the roadside near to the farm of the same name. We left the road, at the farm entrance and followed path and field, east to Joghole Wood. After a brief look at the old lead mine workings at Jughole, we then crossed over Nailor Lane. Then to walk various rights of way southwards to Bonsall, walking east of Town Head. After passing by The Cross. we climbed steeply up to the Lychgate of the Parish Church of St. James, noting the sign advertising, food and light refreshment in the church. Unfortunately, only open at week-ends. From the bottom of the churchyard, we turned right to take the cliff face path down to Yeoman Street once again. At the corner of the Fountain, a quarter of our number made for the car park, the rest retiring to the outdoor seating of the wonderful Fountain Café, where we enjoyed a delightful after-walk drink and perhaps the odd cake or two! A lovely way to finish a good walk, albeit misty most of the way. At least it didn’t rain. Thanks Gerry
