On the walk today, we explored some of the lesser walked rights of way in the Mooorwood area, west of South Wingfield, a central theme of Boggy Brook, which we crossed over several times during the walk, sometimes seen and at other times, in culverts beneath our feet. A very good turnout, with plenty of chatter on every subject under the sun, or so it seemed. The first part of the walk was through Barley fields, which in another couple of weeks will be ready for harvesting, the grain probably heading for the brewing industry around Burton on Trent. I say through, but in essence it was on the very edge of the field.  On our way past Hilltop and Edge Farms, we had some stunning views of the valley over Moorwood and towards Wessington, as you will see from some of the pictures below. We entered onto Wild Lane turning towards Hollins Lane, here passing a unique stone boundary marker, (pictured) by the side of the road.   Before the off, I had explained that there would be a detour to avoid a stile and steps which I considered a danger to the group. I hadn’t walked the small detour and it seemed, that no one else had either, for quite some time as we battled our way through brambles and some of those stingy things, that many who were wearing shorts weren’t too pleased with. But we all made it through safely and gathered on the road near Church Farm, before continuing up the road to rejoin the planned route at Hill View Farm. We left the road here heading for Carr Farm, stopping in a grassy field for our morning break having completed two miles.

At Carr Farm, we now turned to walk, a minor road, south eastwards, taking in some of the small out lying Colliery, Ludlam, Meadow and Brook farms, before heading back over grassy meadows to cross Boggy Brook at South Wingfield for the last time. We now headed uphill, over more meadows, reaching the Barley field first encountered, walking through it this time, on a narrow path to regain the B5035 road and so to the cars, arriving there by one o’clock.
