Up the long lane from Bonsal, through the woods to the Heights of Abraham. Wonderful view of Riber Castle emerging from the mist, while we had our elevenses. Following around the moor we had great views over Matlock, but it was steep going, in all 1,100 feet of ascent. Worth it for our second stop, lunch over-looking Matlock. The Sun was in and out by this time and in spite of a cool breeze, I think we were feeling warm.
Across the fields to Brightside farm. Then along tracks, all the way back to Upper Town. Plenty of bright spring flowers in the gardens there. The descending steep path and steps were negotiated, coming out into the market place in Bonsal. A short road walk through the village to the Fountain café, where it was warm enough to sit outside and enjoy a brew. Jane H.

What a lovely day. A bit of a nip in the air but not much wind. Mostly sunny and periods of cloud, but a lovely early spring day. A good turnout including some new walkers. Excellent route with not a large amount of mud. But it has definitely got drier underfoot since we have stopped having constant rain. The woods above Matlock were full of birds singing. The hedgerows are starting to sprout flowers, Snowdrops, Celandines and Coltsfoot, also some Blackthorn trees and bushes were beautiful with their clouds of delicate tiny white blossom.
