Amber Valley Ramblers Derbyshire

Chatsworth Estate
Wednesday 28 February 2024
6.8 miles Leader. Jane H.
Weather 9°C. Dry
No. on walk 17
A rearranged route due to the wet weather we have been having. But the day was dry and cloudy with a rather cold wind. Only a few spots of rain. We started  following the river south, from the house, which was only muddy in parts. We crossed the road bridge at Carlton Lees . Then up the road which turns into a very rutted track to the top of the valley. Coffee about half the way up. Turned left to the track over the Warren. Some good views along the valley. Lunch when we got to the woods above Chatsworth. Then a bit of a meander around in the woods. Went to see the Swiss Cottage, which now does not have a lake in front . Apparently it had to be drained because the dam didn’t meet modern requirements and it would be very expensive to redo it. Then along the roads to the Emperor Lake, which has been done and is full of water. Along to the Hunting Tower and we braved the steep steps down to the car park. 6.8 miles 690 foot of ascent. Lots of us went to the Chatsworth tea room to finish the enjoyable day. Jane.
